Wax Food Wrap Roll

  • This wax wrap roll is a great cost-effective solution for food storage. Use instead of plastic cling film to wrap food or cover bowls and plates.

Cut to any size that you need, roll is 30cm wide by 150cm long.

To use rub in-between hands to warm and make pliable. Place around food or over dish and the wax wrap will naturally stick to itself (warm with hands again if needed). To clean gently wipe down with cold water and air dry.

Wax wrap should last for over one year, when needed you can re-wax using a wax wrap refresher kit or can be used as a firelighter or composted.

Not to be used in a microwave, oven or dishwasher and avoid hot foods as well as raw meat.

  • Organic cotton cloth coated in a mixture of natural beeswax, antimicrobial pine resin and antibacterial jojoba oil, giving it pliability and allowing food to ‘breathe’ the way nature intended, keeping it fresher for longer.

Cloth is Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 approved. This guarantees the natural fibres are certified organic, non-toxic textile ink is used and all production procedures are certified to meet rigorous environmental and social standards.

  • Sold in cardboard box which can be recycled or composted.

Delivered in cardboard box which is reused for our home delivery service.

  • Tunisia, delivered to UK via sea/land.

  • Clingfilm is one of the easiest and most popular to tools for keeping food fresh (the UK uses enough clingfilm yearly to wrap 30 times around the equator) but it poses a number of environmental issues, mainly that it is hard to recycle. Almost all ends up in landfill, incinerators or worse as plastic pollution and can breakdown into microplastics.

Beeswax wraps are a great alternative, being plastic and toxin-free – 100% biodegradable and compostable.

Great to use to make your own soy milk or tofu without the added plastic packaging and the benefit of making use of two nutritious by-products okara and whey. Beans can also be cooked and used in curries, tagines or roasted for crunchy snack.

    Recipes

  • Allergen: Soy

Soya beans have been a staple food in China, Japan and Southeast Asia for millennia.

Highly nutritious, a rich source of calcium, iron, phosphorus, beta-carotene, amino acids, vitamins A,B and C, omega-3 essential fatty acids and protein. They supply almost as may essential amino acids as animal proteins and contain twice as much protein as other pulses.

The process of transforming soya into tofu and milk unlocks proteins and essential amino acids and increases their nutritional value.

  • This item is delivered to us in a plastic bag which we recycle with either Terracycle or ReFactory.

  • China. Our suppliers use land, rail and sea to deliver their goods to the UK. Delivered to us in Cornwall via land.

  • Soya has a bad reputation when it comes to the environment so we had to choose carefully how and where we sourced it from.

Firstly, at least 75% of all soya produced goes to feed industrially farmed livestock, it takes a high volume of soy as animal feed to produce only a small amount of meat. Poultry is the number one livestock sector that consumes soy beans, followed by pork, dairy and beef. If we want to reduce the impact of soya monocrops we need to curb our consumption of grain-fed meat.

Most soya comes from Brazil where its production has contributed to deforestation which is why we sourced from China.

Most soya is genetically modified (GM) to make it resistant to strong herbicides for easy weed control; as the weeds become resistant to the chemicals sprayed on them, farmers use stronger chemicals, compounding environmental impacts. This is why we have made sure our soya in non-GM (as are all our products) and also organic.

Committed to using and promoting the use of plastic free, this Sencha Green Tea is completely plastic and packaging free.

Not all teas are certified fair trade however all producers have been vetted to ensure the farms/plantations all comply with national and international laws, meaning no forced or under age labour and workers are paid a correct wage. That they work in safe and hygienic working conditions with no harsh or inhumane treatment and fair working hours.

Most of West Country Tea Co teas are organic, however they are unable to advertise or sell them as such, as they are not organic certified themselves. These wooden pegs are biodegradable and compostable at the end of their useful life. The steel can be recycled and the wooden pegs composted. Unlike plastic pegs, they will not pollute the environment after use.

Air drying clothes is by far the most environmentally friendly way to dry your clothes. The average tumble dryer produces 1.8kg of CO2 each time it is used. Tumble drying also causes synthetic fabrics to shed microplastics, which end up in our water systems. (info from Is it Really Green? Georgina Wilson-Powell)
