  • All of our food items are bought via co-operatives who ensure products are fairly traded and that workers are protected-important for cashew harvesting.

A bit like wonky fruit and veg, buying cashew pieces stops them being wasted.

A lot of cashew farming in Vietnam occurs on “small, often wild or naturalized plantations” that don’t use any fertilizers or pesticides. If pesticides are used cashew nuts naturally have two protective coverings — the outer shell and the inner “testa” layer — shielding them from the direct application of pesticides. Sultanas (Organic)

  • Great snack, use in baking and cooking - great for savoury and sweet recipes, add to salads.

    Recipes

  • What’s the difference?

Sultanas, also known as golden raisins or sultana raisins, are dried white grapes, but of the seedless variety. They are golden in color and tend to be much plumper, sweeter, and altogether juicier than other raisins. They can absorb other flavors, but not quite as well as regular raisins.

Raisins are dried white Moscatel grapes. When they are dried the result is a dark, dried fruit much like a currant, making it dense in texture and bursting with a sweet flavor.

Raisins can (unlike currants) soak up other flavors, which is why it is popular to soak raisins in flavored alcohols such as brandy or almond-flavored Amaretto before using in cooking. Raisins can hold all that flavor, making the finished dish even tastier.

Figs (Organic)

  • Great snack!

    Recipes

  • Six dried figs, the USDA says, gets you about 125 calories and higher amounts of magnesium (8%), potassium (7%), calcium (6%) and iron (6%).

Figs also have vitamin K, which can alter the effectiveness of the blood-thinning medication warfarin.

Figs are delectably sweet, and there's a reason for that: lots of natural sugar. Six dried figs have about 24 grams. That's offset by a reasonable amount of fiber, about 5 grams, or 17% of the recommended daily value.

That fiber helps slow the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream. Dried figs have a glycemic index of 61 and a glycemic load of 16, putting them in the middle of the pack in terms of how they affect blood glucose.
